Consistent IRA management

This isn't my first time using M1 Finance. I've had a Roth IRA with them for a couple of years and just opened a Traditional IRA. The setup process was just as smooth as last time. I like the M1 Pies feature for managing my investments; it's really consistent. They handle everything reliably, which is why I keep coming back for new accounts.

Great value on M1 Plus

I signed up for the M1 Plus free trial and it's been worth it. The margin rate discount for M1 Borrow was a big draw. I was able to borrow at a much better rate than other places I looked. For someone trying to maximize every dollar, this platform offers a lot of useful features without breaking the bank. Happy with the overall value here.

Good features, minor hiccup

I opened a Roth IRA and set up a custom M1 Pie. The platform's automated rebalancing is really convenient for keeping my target allocations. I liked that I could pick specific ETFs and stocks. The fractional shares were a big plus for investing smaller amounts consistently. My only small issue was the M1 Plus free trial enrollment wasn't as straightforward as I expected; took a couple of clicks to confirm it was active.

Easy to get started

I finally got around to setting up an Individual Brokerage Account. It was pretty easy to link my bank and get some money in there. I just picked one of their Expert Pies to start since I didn't want to mess with picking stocks myself. It's been doing its thing. No complaints so far, although I wish they had more options for trading times outside that single window.

Reliable for long-term investing

I've been using M1 Finance for a couple of years now for my Automated Investing account. This time I added the M1 Finance High Yield Savings Account to keep my emergency fund in. It was easy to set up and the interest rate is competitive, consistent with what they've offered in the past. My previous experiences with their Automated Investing and recurring transfers have always been smooth. They're reliable for long-term growth and the automated rebalancing really simplifies things. It's why I keep coming back. I did notice the app seemed a bit slower to load on my older phone compared to my previous orders, but that might just be my device.

Decent value, small bonus

I signed up for a Traditional IRA and transferred an old 401k over to M1 Finance. I was looking for a platform with low fees and automated investing to manage it, and this seemed like a good fit. I also got a small sign up credit which was a nice incentive. The platform's design felt clean and easy to navigate when I was setting up my allocations. I compared it to a few other places and the overall cost structure here felt pretty competitive. The dividend reinvestment feature is also great for long-term growth. The only thing I noticed was that the initial funding took slightly longer than I anticipated, about 5 business days until it was fully settled and invested.

Consistent investing experience

I've used M1 Finance for a few years now, primarily for my Roth IRA. This latest deposit and rebalancing was just as smooth as always. I appreciate how reliably the automated rebalancing works without much input from me. It's why I keep coming back, even though the trade windows can sometimes feel a bit restrictive.

Good for custom investing

I opened an Individual Brokerage Account. Setup was quick, and the Custom Portfolios feature works well. Automated Rebalancing is a nice touch. Overall, a solid platform for my needs.

Thinking of moving my Roth IRA over. Anyone know if they'll cover the ACATS transfer fees from another broker?

S Sean Davis 2 weeks ago
Yeah, I did this from Fidelity last year. They have a form you fill out to get the ACATS fees reimbursed. Just gotta hit a certain deposit amount, I think.

J Jeff Williams 2 weeks ago
They usually do, pretty standard with most brokers. Just make sure you check the terms for how much you need to transfer to qualify, it's not always for small amounts.

Saw something about a sign-up bonus, but couldn't find a promo code. How do you actually get those new account deals?

L Linda W. 1 month ago
They mostly use referral links or it's an automatic bonus if you meet certain deposit criteria. Rarely an actual promo code you type in.
2
M Matt Smith 1 month ago
Yeah, usually it's tied to a referral link or a specific promotion page. You don't usually 'redeem' a code in the traditional sense, it just applies if you qualify.

Is M1 Finance actually good for beginners or is it more for people who already know a lot about investing?

S Susan S. 1 week ago
It's pretty good for beginners. The whole 'pie' system makes it easy to visualize your portfolio, and you can just use their expert pies if you don't know where to start.

A Alex White 1 week ago
I started with almost zero knowledge and found it super intuitive. The automated rebalancing helps a ton so you don't have to constantly be fiddling with it.

Is M1 Finance like, actually safe? I hear a lot about it but not sure if it's legit or just another flashy app.

S Sandra Moore 1 month ago
They're SIPC insured, which means your investments are protected up to a certain amount if the brokerage fails. So yeah, pretty standard safety measures there.

I Ian Lee 1 month ago
Totally legit. It's a proper brokerage. Your funds are protected by SIPC just like with Schwab or Fidelity, so no worries on that front.

Does M1 offer any kind of bonus for signing up or if I get a friend to sign up?

H Hannah Wright 1 month ago
They usually have referral bonuses going on. You can get a link from a friend or sometimes they have direct sign-up promos. Check their site around tax season or end of year, that's when I see them pop up more.
0
H Hannah Campbell 1 month ago
Yeah, if you refer someone, you both get a little something. I think the bonus amount changes sometimes, but it's usually decent.

quick question: is there a minimum to open an M1 account? like, do i need a grand or something to start investing?

A Amanda N. 1 month ago
For a regular individual brokerage, I think it's just $100 to start investing. Retirement accounts might be slightly more.
3
K Karen E. 1 month ago
Nope, it's pretty low. I started with like $100 for my taxable account. Super easy to get going.

Hey, thinking about M1 vs. Wealthfront for a new investment account. Any thoughts on which is better for someone who wants a bit more control but still some automation?

S Sofia Smith 2 weeks ago
M1 definitely gives you more control with the 'pies' and picking individual stocks/ETFs, while still rebalancing automatically. Wealthfront is more hands-off, like a pure robo-advisor.
5
M Matt Mitchell 1 week ago
I've used both. If you like seeing what you own and tweaking it, M1 is good. Wealthfront is simpler if you just want to set it and forget it, but less customization.

Thinking of moving my old 401k to an M1 IRA. Anyone know if they cover the fees my old broker charges to transfer out?

J Joseph B. 4 weeks ago
Yeah, they do. I transferred an old account from Fidelity last year and M1 credited me back the fee. Just gotta make sure you meet their minimums and keep the money there for a bit.
2
B Brittany Diaz 3 weeks ago
I think they do, but you probably need to contact their support after the transfer to get it sorted. It's not automatic, afaik.
